Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are a cosmetic procedure that allows us to permanently treat a range of imperfections. At one time, dental veneers were considered a procedure that only celebrities could afford. Today’s veneers are more practical and affordable than ever and make it possible for just about anyone to have a beautiful smile.

At Lomita-Torrance Dental, we can prepare your teeth and place your veneers for you. We also offer financing options, including Care Credit, to make veneers possible even if you are on a budget.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are fitted over the front of your teeth to cover troublesome imperfections. The translucency of the veneers allows the natural shade of your teeth to shine through, keeping your smile natural and never fake.

Some of the imperfections we can treat with dental veneers include:

  • Discolorations that are resistant to bleaching
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Short or worn down teeth
  • Pitting, ridges, and other damage to the enamel
  • Slightly crooked teeth

How Are Dental Veneers Placed?

Porcelain veneers are placed in a two-part process. Before we decide if veneers are right for you, we will perform an examination to make sure that your teeth are free from decay and that no gum disease is present.

To prepare your teeth for the veneers, we will remove a thin layer of the enamel on the front of the teeth that will be getting veneers. We will numb your teeth beforehand so that the process is not uncomfortable, but once this process is performed, it can’t be reversed. After your teeth are prepared, we will take impressions of your teeth to send to the lab that will be creating your veneers. We may cover your teeth with temporary veneers since the enamel removal could make them more sensitive.

When your veneers arrive from the lab, we’ll have you come back into the office, and at that time, we’ll check the fit of your veneers. If everything is perfect, we will bond the veneers to your teeth.

We may ask you to return for a follow-up appointment to make sure that the veneers are fitting well and are comfortable. If you have any concerns or if you notice a difference in your bite, please give us a call so we can take a look.

Caring for Your Veneers

For the most part, caring for dental veneers doesn’t require anything more than continuing your normal brushing and flossing routine and returning for regular check-ups and professional cleanings.

Veneers are not intended to prevent cavities or gum disease, so it’s important that you make a commitment to keeping up with your good oral hygiene habits. While veneers are stain-resistant and durable, they are not indestructible. Brushing your teeth after consuming foods and drinks known to be staining such as curry, chocolate, red wine, and coffee will help keep your veneers sparkling. To prevent damage to your veneers, avoid chewing things that aren’t food like ice, pencils, or your fingernails.
